You can do anything whilst house sitting as long as you’re taking your role as a house sitter seriously. Typically, people travel while house sitting since it is a great way to explore new places and get accommodation for free. 

Those who are retired or who are able to work remotely find that house sitting is a great vehicle for cheaper budget travel.

This means that while house-sitting you could do whatever you want just as you can as a tourist or someone visiting new places for fun.

In reality, as a house sitter, you don’t have many obligations, just to make sure that animals are being well looked after, that they are fed, watered and exercised.

Other than this, housesitters have time to do whatever else they want to do. If they choose a house sitting job in an interesting city such as London or Barcelona, they can explore and do different activities each day. The possibilities are endless as a house sitter.

As a house sitter, you have many responsibilities and duties since you are looking after someone’s pets and home when they are not there.

You will probably be given a list of instructions that explains what your main responsibilities are such as feeding pets twice a day and taking them on an hour walk.

The tasks are likely to the very specific and you should make sure you follow them to the letter. Other than this, you are free to do what you want providing it fits with your responsibilities. For instance, if you cannot leave the dog alone for more than 4 hours, then do not plan a day trip away from the home for 12 hours.

If you are someone who wants freedom and flexibility when travelling, then house sitting may not be ideal for you unless you specifically choose a house sitting job that involves minimal tasks.

Do you sleep at the house when house sitting?

House sitting usually involves sleeping at the house since that is part of what you do as a sitter. You look after someone’s house whilst they are away and staying over means you can keep an eye on everything and care for the pets properly.
